  • Save the Date: Jersey City Book Fair- May 30, 2026

Good morning, my readers. As you may recall from last month’s e-mail, a new book fair is in the works. It is my pleasure to announce the first Jersey City Book Fair. In collaboration with poet and curator Millicent Ansah, we will be convening JCBF 2026 at the Bethune Center in Jersey City, NJ.

Many of you have known Polite On Society as a platform for Black literature, showcasing Black authors and covering literature related events and matters that impact our community. Founded in 2009, Polite On Society will celebrate its 17th anniversary in May. In making a bit of a jump from an online-only space, it is with much excitement that this blog has also become a component of bringing people together for the purpose of literacy and education.

If you happen to be in Jersey City, you are welcome to join us.

  • Marc Polite Listed As Author On Internet Speculative Fiction Database

Greetings, my readers. As some of you may have noticed, I have been leaning into my affinity for science fiction. Not just from the vantage point of a fan of the genre, but now as a creator. The forthcoming “Stand On Ganymede” will be my first foray into my favorite genre.

Recently, I learned that I have been listed as an author of speculative fiction. As a blogger, I am compelled to check my internet traffic, and where it is coming from. I got a ping from a source that I did not initially recognize. So, when I followed the source, I saw that it came from a site called The Internet Speculative Fiction Database.

After verifying its legitimacy, I noticed that it referred to an essay of mine featured in a book published in 2017. I am pleasantly surprised to be listed as a speculative fiction author before my first science fiction book even drops. I don’t know who listed me, but whoever you are, thank you.

You may find the link here if you are interested in seeing it.
